Local Artist Elissa Ellis offers sculpture sessions in Art with You ’22 programs

The Charles City Public Library and Charles City Arts Center are pleased to announce a series of free programs for kids, teens, and adults entitled Art with You ‘22. Local artist Elissa Ellis will be instructing two hand building with clay sessions for teens and adults and one paper quilling class for teens. Hand building with clay sessions start on June 1 at 4 pm (teens) and 7 pm (adults) and continues June 8th and 15th at the same times. Paper Quilling will begin on July 20 at 5 pm and will continue July 27 and August 3rd. The first class of the hand building with clay session meets at the library where students will meet with Ellis and learn about the class. The subsequent clay classes are held at the Arts Center where instruction continues, and students create their masterpieces. All the Paper Quilling classes will be held at the library in the Zastrow Meeting Room.

Ellis has worked in the design industry for over 20 years and is a graduate of Iowa State University with a BFA in Visual Design. She began working with clay shortly after college and has never turned back! She moved to the Charles City area in 2020 and became the manager of The Rustic Corner. She is also the president of the Charles City Arts Center Council and designs/builds sets for the Charles City Community School District Drama and Musical Department. Her costume designs won Chamber Choice Award at the Santa Shine and Show car in 2021.

Floyd County Community Foundation is the fiscal sponsor behind Art with You ‘22 programs. The community foundation gives local non-profit organizations grants of funding to create a more vibrant place for all people to thrive. The Charles City Public Library received the grant and hopes that each art session will further its mission to bring people, ideas, and information together to enrich the community.

Registration for sessions is required; please contact the library at 641-257-6319, register at https://forms.gle/txHftn6tTj7iuvHu5, or email the director at ccdirector34@gmail.com to save your spot for these very special opportunities.
